… Jack up Gratuity from 250 to 500 Million
The Oyo State Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, mni, has disclosed that the present administration in the State under the leadership of Engr. Seyi Makinde has demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of the pensioners by increasing funds for the payment of gratuity to retirees for Ministries Department and Agencies, including TESCOM, Tertiary Institutions, Parastatals on monthly basis from 250 Million to 500 Million Naira.
The Head of Service hinted further that the same process applies to the Local Government Staff Pension Board where the funds release for gratuity was increased to 500 Million Naira.
She stated these while declaring open a 2 – Day Training and Sanitization of Prospective Retirees of Public Primary Schools and Local Government Service held at the Parliament Building, House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan.
She said the launching of the training programme underscores the Government commitment to the people’s welfare most especially the retirees.
She said “this is In addition to timely monthly pension payments since 2019 by this administration which I believe is a feat deserving of praise, my check with some other States did not reveal to me the same situation, it is therefore a reassuring situation for our prospective retirees that after retirement, you will receive regular payment of your monthly pensions”.
Also speaking, The Chairman of the Oyo State Pension Board, Hon. Akeem Ige commended the State Governor. Engr. Seyi Makinde for making the welfare of the pensioners his priority since he assumed office in 2019 as well as for approving the sensitization programme for the retirees which he said has never happened in the history of Oyo State.
While delivering his paper with the theme: “Toward Achieving Hitch-Free Processing of Retirement Benefitsâ, the State Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Comrade Segun Abatan admonished the participants on the need to get something doing at least five years before retirement, stating that their salaries cannot sustain them without adding another source of income which will ease and make life interesting for them before and after service.
Abatan, who disclosed that henceforth, retirees will be getting their pensions immediately after retirement, hinting that, this was made possible by Governor Seyi Makinde who has taken bold steps in making retirement more attractive for the State workforce.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Staff Pension Board, Mr. Lukman Akinola assured the participants that the programme will surely enhance the quick payment of their pensions as well as gratuities after retirement.
